The Good Life

The Good LifeThe ‘Good Life’ is a different approach that focuses on the ability of professionals to show compassion, appreciation and respect, not only with the people they serve but with their peers.

The ‘Good Life’ focuses on helping people live a good life using some fundamental tools based on compassion, appreciation and respect.

In early 2015, professionals from many Developmental Disabilities agencies in Allen, Hardin, Putnam, and Wood counties met for a 20 week training to become Good Life Facilitators in their respective agencies, to help ‘spread the Good Life word’ with others.

Since that time, the Allen County Good Life Team has been holding monthly sessions with ACBDD staff to introduce Good Life concepts that help assess where we are & where we want to be as DD professionals. Participants discover that we all have gifts, talents and tools that we can use to build positive and supportive relationships with everyone around us. When we are intentional about using those gifts & tools, everyday, the results can truly be transformative for the individuals we serve!

The Good Life Team also promotes a healthy and positive work culture by simple things as sending a weekly email with an encouragement or a video to watch that is uplifting. They also have decorated board with Good Life concepts and gone the extra mile in many ways we cannot see. It really is making a difference!

In early 2016, the Good Life Team also began presenting to staff and individuals residing in group living sites and those attending day programs. In August 2016 four more individuals that work for ACBDD began the 10 week course to be trained as Good Life Facilitators to continue the commitment of the Allen County Board of DD to help everyone have a ‘Good Life’ and to feel valued, respected, and appreciated.
